Gender Identity/Exploration

I have experience working with clients who identify in many different ways. Often times this type of therapy focuses on self-acceptance, decreasing the prevelance of gender dysphoria, and coping with change. If a client identifies in a gender non-conforming way this does not mean that therapy has to focus around this identity. If the client wants to talk about their gender or if it relevant then it might come up, but otherwise I do not force my clients to discuss this area of their life unless they want to.

I do identify as a cisgender female, which means that I do not have specific experience with gender identity exploration and difficulties. I believe that it is important for me to be transparent with my clients that while I do not have lived experience I always try to be affirming. All clients are encouraged to let me know what their preferred langauge is and help me learn and grow throughout this process. I always take accountability for how I present in sessions and if there is anything I can do to make my clients more comfortable in sessions, especially surrounding their gender, I do my best to accomodate these needs.
